I was told that my cars ECU--being naturally aspirated--likes to advance timing pretty aggressively. I really have no way of confirming this as no dyno to confirm this with. I do trust teh guy though.

So I am wondering about timing map settings. I have not run the car like this yet but it was suggested.

Now do you guys see a problem with me ratarding timing based on RPM or should I be doing it based on PSI voltage?

You guys are welcome to post up a capture of your MAP and how the values are oriented in teh ignition map. I'd like to see.

Thanks.

It probably would be best to do it off the map sensor voltage, that way it only retards when in boost. I was doing mine off maf voltage but finally got the map sensor and found out another guy was using map for the ignition retard and that seems like the better way to do it than maf voltage. I was setting mine for 6 psi but I'm still learning about this timing stuff.

retarding timing is best from my experiences when done in accordance with boost pressure, a safe ratio is 1.25 degrees / 1 lbs of boost.

so for every pound of boost retard around degree. Since you have no dyno to fine tune it you do NOT want to go to far.. for you i would say 1/2 a degree per pound to start with.

Okay, I will go ahead and make changes based on your suggestions. Thanks

Hmmmmmm..................I just realized that the EMB's Ignition Map can only be adjusted in increments of 1*. So if I want to change in increments of half I'll need to adjust my Greddy Map Voltage Scale so that it progresses in increments of roughly 2psi. Then when I enter -1* per each 2 psi increment, theoretically, it should retard timing by .5*.

Is there any other way to convert the MAP voltage to PSI, besides the conversion sheet?

Unless there is a whole different way of doing it that I'm just not getting.
