View Full Version : Hi my name is Mac and I have an EMU

I will soon be installing my EMU into a 1993 SC300 in prep for the long awaited turbo. This will be my build thread (unless it needs to be elsewhere.) I have never tuned with electronics before so hopefully this will also be a question answer thread.
So far I have:
EMU
LC1 wideband
OEM connectors to build a patch harness
still need a MAP sensor(To convert to speed density)1JZGTE is already MAP so woohoo.
Hit me with any beginners knowledge.
Thanks and can't wait.

This is from our downloads section. I'm not sure if you have to have a previous version and this updates, but its all that is in there for now. Will look into it though.

Sven, I missed this thread, was just wondering if you got around to this setup yet?
You should get the Greddy O2 adpater or an O2 clamp as well as the Greddy MAP Sensor(3 bar).

thanks Dzaster, but i believe thats an update file only, u must have the previous full version 1st which im looking for :D

Haven't done it yet. I have been tdy 7 of the last 12 months. but no more till I deploy in the fall.
Currently I just purchased a 1JZ-GTE for the SC. Came out of a Soarer so its a direct drop in.
Once I knock all of that install out, I will wire up the EMU to it.
I will now be Map based so tuning will be easier compared to the Karmen Vortex maf on the 2JZ-GE I have in the car now.
I need to order the Greddy 3Bar Map sensor and I should be set. The LC1 can output to the emanage and I have the harness for it.
Extending the whole harness 18 inches sucks but I have to knock that out first.

Okay, I'll see if I can get someone to send me the fiel and host it up here. I know a couple folks that have it.

WOOOOHOOOOOO
My 1JZGTE is here, JHOT rocks.
I have a thread on CL for it already. Getting alot of 1J help over there but I will keep this one going and updated with major things and pics soon.
Came with motor, harness,ECU,igniter,MAP sensor, trans, driveshaft, fuse box from the soarer, oh and all intercooler piping.
sventhemac
06-26-2009, 07:18 AM
Motor and trans are out. 1JZ and auto are separated, wire harness extended 18 inches (96 feet of wire),side mount intercooler is in, need motor mounts( mine are broken now), flywheel bolts and building a new PS line. exhausts mount up so no pain there but I do want to fire it up once without the pipe on just cause I haven't heard that in a while . Miss that sound of a new motor revvving the first time.
Also looking for an LSD most likely a KAAZ 2way, lil much but better than an open diff.

Tight! Going to work eh?!!!
Are you doing up the harness yourself? If so, very cool man.

07-05-2009, 07:11 AM
One man band right now. The one guy I know that has done 240 swaps, just had a kid, so he stopped in for 30 mins and we pulled the old motor. The wiring sucked man. 47+ wires needed to go 18 inches longer,4x stripped wire ends, so double that in physical twists on each end and soldering those then heat shrink plus a final wrap with high temp electrical tape. It's deinately been an experience so far. Plus vacation on the middle threw everything out of whack can't order parts if I am not there when they show up.

Still looking for a good clutch and LSD. Looking at a spec stage 2+ to keep it a full face.
And also looking at the KAAZ.
sventhemac
07-09-2009, 12:55 AM
Ordered a SPec 2+ clutch and an OEM flywheel because everyone is out of the light weight fly I want.
Flywheel bolts, Motor mounts and a throttle cable are also on the way.
Doing Combat skills training this week so again No work on the car, sucks having two week split of no work.
However on a long break because our class is too big, I walked over to the auto center and pulled the 5-speed trans off and started cleaning it up.
Seriously ready to finish this up. Need a few more intercooler pieces then it will be 100%.

Looking good, I will be keeping an eye on the build. The first tt car I rode in was a sc300, it was sick, I wish to build one of those one day.
sventhemac
07-10-2009, 02:39 AM
Its a good car. Rides nice although mine had Eibach's and KYB GR-2's on it before I got it, So that might be the reason, feels good at(on stock motor) 154, 135, 80, 55, 30. Two fastest rides I have taken and all normal speeds. Needs an LSD though. Heavy but stable. I had a lil vibration the time I took it to 135 and ended up being my crank pulley seperated.:( But the 1JZ is solving that as soon as parts get here.
Just spent 12hrs with my "Richard in the dirt as they say". Learned some new stuff, Hajii scenarios, rifle fighting and other good stuff. And shooting blanks always makes for a fun clean up session.

Throttle cable, engine mounts, and flywheel bolts are here(six of them) other two are on the way. Clutch shipped but not the fly, little pissed at that. But it ships tomorrow.
EDIT-Other two fly bolts made it in, Props to Aaron at driftmotion working fast to correct the issue. Fly shipped today them bastards, oh well should be here before friday. Clutch is pretty.haha. Oh and last intercooler pipe shipped today also. Freaking stoked everything is coming together.

This is the third time I am typing this, spreading the 1JZGTE word is hurting fingers, haha.
Tracked UPS guy down and got my flywheel, He wasn't going to deliver until 730PM. WTF. Anyways put trans and everything together after swapping PP studs from old to new. Tried to stab the motor in and before I got done the base shop closed and I had to leave. So close. Wife will be there tomorrow so I will have some pics then.

Yeah man this has been insane, 20 volunteers to help and when their phone rings not a single answer(except the one guy with a TC that wants to race.)
Two guys randomly stopped by the shop to see what was up. The first one I had run the engine hoist and pulled the old motor and the second showed up the other day while on a run. Started it up in front of him with a massive fuel leak.(Learned to take my time.)
Built a power steering line I read a thread about on CL. Works great with a few copper washers on it and doesn't leak like crazy. 55 bucks from ANplumbing dot com. Build it yourself type deal, PITA but worth it.
Pics--
Just wired starter bypass. Second Co-worker took this shot.

So right now I need to--
--Put the propper gapped/heat range plugs in. Have them now.
--Bleed clutch-It is not allowing me to shift into gear and if I start with the clutch in and in gear the car will roll.
--Burp the Coolant system
--Fill power steering up all the way(Run lock to lock a few times and fill)
--I have a ignition cut at around 2000 rpms. Hopefully plugs will fix that and while I am in there I will check all the connections on the coils.
--Also need to look at my alternator as it seemed as if it wasn't 100% square with the rest of the pulleys.

Testing coil packs and igniter today. See if thats my isssue.
sventhemac

Looked at coils today and one has a big crack in it can't believe I didn't see it.. So my question is could that cause my ign cut??

Its definitely possible. EMU hooked up if so all jumpers okay?
sventhemac
07-30-2009, 07:51 PM
Problem #1 solved hooked my external tach up and voila it works.
EMU is not hooked up yet.
Working on my clutch not releasing issue now. Ordering a SS line and having a slave cylinder rod machined to a longer lenght.
EDIT- I bought and installed a new coil to replace it no change. but solved it by tach wire.
sventhemac
07-31-2009, 07:12 PM
New clutch line is on the way. Now I need to talk to people about the slave cylinder rod, a coulple of people have done it before.

About those slave cyl pushrods. I asked a very knowledgable buddy of mine and he said they work, just can cause premature wear of teh pressure plate.
I almost bought one. HERE (http://speed-source.net/products/pushrod.htm)

Called those guys up and they said they don't make em for my car. I have a kickass machine shop in town that I just found when I had my fuel line mishap.
They are eager to work on fast cars so woohoo.
Also I am looking into a hydraulic throw out bearing, need to find where I found that info again.

Why was this engine set never offered to the good ole US of A. I am officially pissed at the world. This motor needs to be all over the place it is an insane rush. The last boosted car I drove was a WRX and I don't remember the feeling as vividly as the first pull with the new motor. As in it didn't impact my feel Freaking Awesome button in my brain. Maybe its all the blood/sweat/tears/fists/kicks/curses/bullshit/ That I put into this but ddamn it feels good. Too bad I deploy real soon and can't enjoy it.
On another note, I have a question-How do you teach a person who has never driven a stick to drive a car that boosts from 3200RPM all the way to the 7500RPM cut?(Its my wife btw)
Leaving base I chirped the tires cause the light changed and I stabbed the gas a bit and rrrrrriiiiiiiippppppppp, ssssshhhhhhhh, Damn I am at 60.BRAKES. Whoa thats cool.
Dzaster
08-10-2009, 01:32 AM
How about keeping the wastegate open so it don't boost? Driving stick is already nerve racking for someone who has never really learnt it. Not to mention you don't want your ride to get messed. I tried to teach my wife in mine. No goods!
Again I say, VIDS!:D

Well hell. Back to my 1600 RPM sputtering problem, thinking my caps are leaking in the ECU. I was driving to the next town over 15 miles away and it happened so drove back in 5th at 40 mph. That was not fun. Still trying to figure this out.

My impressions as well when I first drove in a boosted sc300, it was insane and I've wanted to do one of these or a 240sx. One of my favorite videos on youtube FTW!!

Had my ECU Recapped by driftmotion.-Hopefully this solves the 1600RPM stutter.
3 bar MAP-received
New heater core-received(messed mine up on motor Install)
Waiting on Oil pressure gauge,EGT gauge(Santa might be helpful)(Hahahahaha)
KAAZ LSD still haven't ordered it yet.

sventhemac
12-23-2009, 03:01 AM
Sorry for the late reply. Power supply turned to shit here. Trying to update, Only so much I can do from this hole I am at. Getting some wiring help for random issues from someone who just did the same swap.
-A/C Compressor wire that locks it needs to be wired in.
-CEL wiring needs to be double checked. Dunno if its good or not
-Get rid of airbag light-Doubt airbags from 93 work anyways. Maybe a new wheel-stock one is ugly.
-Wire in tru-boost and gauges.
Hook up EMU- fire it up for the first time.
Do general clean up on a car that has sat for about 8 months of the last 9.
More stuff but cant think now gotta pass out.

KAAZ is on the way when paypal clears.
tru boost is at the house.

My tuner is booked solid so I have to wait until middle of next week to get her tuned. MMMMmmm can't wait. It's an absolute beast, I love this car. Take it easy fella's.

Wow, its been awhile since I have been on here. Deployed again so my research starts again. It's been an incredibly busy year and change. Sorry for being gone so long just busy as hell.
I have done nothing with my car except the front turbo is blowing oil like crazy.
So for an update I will be running a Holset HX35 when I get back and seeing where I can go with it.
My motor came from a Soarer so it was map based from the beginning. I have a simple way of modifying it. But anyhow I'll be posting what I learn and whatnot again.
