E-Manage to pc problem

hello there, i'm new here came from evolutionm.net I got a problem with my e manage, first of all it is wired up already and doesn't give any trouble codes, but when i try to connect it to my lap nothing happens, the indicator of the tool suppor its on green and sometimes blinks but besides this thats the only thing that happens. im running vista and bought a serial to usb converter from radioshak and the cable of the e manage it's the clone one. what can i do??

x2 Is it? And you installed the driver for the serial to USB cable right?

Is there another computer you can just try to install the software on and sync to the EMB.

Make sure you have installed the adapter for the usb to serial converter. Vista is hit and miss on accepting the adapter but repeated installs will fix the problem.

Then on your support tool software make sure you are using the right COM PORT. if your tool says online in the bottom right hand corner your good. if not switch to a different COM PORT until it says online. With vista you may need to do this every time you fire up the software.

I will let you all know how it runs on Windows 7 Since that's what im running now.

can you post a picture and or model of the serial/usb converter please?

i will look for alternative drivers if necessary. that is why i got the HP one.... Vista/7 had WDM drivers for it already.




i also have a spare i may be coaxed into selling for the right price.

yeah it is the Giff-tech clone cable, and yes i did install the drivers for vista that came with usb/serial converter, the interesting thing here is that the indicator of the support tool does show activity but nothing happen. i guess i will have to buy another cable for the emb

about the ports, the status shows online, and yes i had tried with another computer, thats why im concluding in buying a new cable

Before you go buy a new cable tell me something. The support tool is saying its online on your computer then that means your computer is talking to the emanage blue. Do not believe the little indicator lights on the unit itself. They do their own thing. If it says your online then the interface is working.

Now if your in your emb and you can't make changes then it's likely locked. Tell me what you see when you try to view the unit parameter settings.

well, yeah it says online, but it doesn't show any box askin' me to download the update file, so i cant make anything, i had tried make it manually at the communication option that says "main unit update" but nothing is what i get. today i tried to do it with w7, and the funny stuff its that even without a cable connected to the lap the tool shows online haha. Also while i was working i was thinking the worst and what if is the emb itself, how can i check?? and what if its locked, how can i unlocked??

all right, after a week and a half of waitin for the cable, i finally got it!, so i did all the procedures and i still getting the same thing, just nothing happens and i just didnt know what else to do. i tried with all the available firmwares but nothing.

ANY IDEAS??????:confused::confused:

You said you did "main unit update". Have you tried export/import options while connected?

oh no i cant even do the main unit update. thats why im stuck. at the morning i changed the settings of the ports to see if that was the problem, but nop. i was thinkin how do i know if the usb port of the emb its fu**** up??

What does it do when you try to do a main unit update? The only way I know of to test it is to try a different emanage unit.

nothing! thas what it does. so thats why i thought the cable was worn, but now with the new one still the same, i even bought the usb cable from Giff to eliminate the serial converter, I tried to do it manually, with the main unit update option form the communication tab, and what it does the box appears and the counting starts but nothing is downloaded or updated. so i guess i will have to look for another kind of engine management option. :(:(:(:(

is your box still under warranty? If not then I remember there being someone who repairs these things. But if you want you can send the blue unit itself to me in the mail and I'll see if it works on my car and mail it back to you. If it works I'll go ahead and update all the firmware and stuff.

yeah that sounds good, what im going to do tomorrow morning is to try to connect my lap to another emb from a good friend to see what happens and then do the next step needed. ill post u as soon as i get the answer

yes!!!!!!! haha after like 4 hours trying to find out what was wrong, i found the little spot. The thing was that with the lap with wv i was using doesn't change the port com, and after try changing the coms with my other lap with w7 i did it. and it works!!!! and im not talkin about the port com option with the tool support.
hahaha so now im using w7 and it looks decent.:D:D:D:D
now lets start the tuning!!!!:cool:

Awesome results! Definitely need to sticky this as a bug has been found between vista and 7. I hate vista anyways. I love using it on windows 7 professional and home edition.

my suggestions ...
vista is the worst win ever! if you want to give w7 a try, right-click on emb icon and set compatibility mode to winXP or even older. also set run as admin.
i'm using winXP and giff usb-usb cable. got a lot of issues, even tried win98se, but now is all ok. used com ports from 2-6, in win settings check which are not in use. here i sticked with 2, in win and emb soft, obviously.
upgraded both emb and software to 1.49 (freeware). the upgrade never finished 100%, but after the error pop-up, clicked ok, turned the ignition off, waited, turned on, gone to help, version, and accused all versions as 1.49.
software will accuse online even if emb is disconnected, that's because of the giff cable serial-usb conversor, inside the black box. to check if it's really connected go to settings, main unit setting and check if is set right.
every time error saying emb not connected, or wrong version, just turn off and on, and it goes ok.
check if af sensor is chosen ok. if throttle is reading right voltage as you step on it. check if maps are at 0. after all set ok, go to export button.
than i started to play with maps.
i got the ignition and injetors harness. all in ebay, for a nice price:D
if you could find the little metal connector that goes inside the two big connector you can diy the harness. i'll try to do that to make the boost harness.;)
i'm running 440cc injectors with ethanol, US$1/L :cool:
at the moment, the ignition is set to +6, injectors map from +30 to +50, car responding just fine. well, better than with the crappy gas we got here. 82 octanes, $1,61/L!!! the 86 octanes is prohibitive, $1,81/L:eek: 1L=0,26gallon

Nice! I had issues using windows vista with it also and had to go through a work around to see success. Win 7 is much better. I didnt have to set it to run in compatability for xp though.
