Greetings to everyone!

In the relatively near future, I will be beginning my emanage journey, adding a Blue to my 4EFTE powered '94 Toyota Tercel. I was referred over here by the wiring guru Kennymp3 and am glad to join my fellow Tercel brethren, Kenny & the incomparable Big-D, Dzaster, in this community. I hope to learn tons from you all.

Here are a couple pics of my Terc:

Thanks for the welcome & compliments. I've spent the past couple days reading through everything, looking for answers, absorbing info, and browsing the downloads, it's been fun and informative. I think I've found MOST of what I've been looking for, although a few questions remain unanswered (I'll start a thread to seek answers).

Big D, I've had the EMB sitting around since early this year, but just got a jumper harness from Kenny, so figured I should move forward (baby steps). Until I get around to obtaining all the necessary turbo upgrades and get some serious use out of the EMB, I want to put in the ACIS manifold and try and use the EMB to activate it (with a great deal of help from your posts).

Toight! Yeah man, I'm pretty sure if you are willing to poke around we can put this ACIS activation bit to rest. Your part will be to research when you want long/short runners.:D Or you could always send the ACIS to me. :p

Top right picture of you EMB goods, what is that? Is that an older version of the EMB MAP sensor.

RPW00Mirage, that guys ride is pretty clean huh 88 with 41k on it.

I think I'll make the sacrifice of testing out the ACIS, but I'll consider sending it your way. http://board.tercelonline.com/images/smilies/screwy.gif

I THINK that is an old EMB MAP. It's worried me that the others I have seen don't look like it. Here are a few pics:

I don't have the rest of the wiring from the MAP to the EMB though, I'll have to pick one up.

Sure is a map sensor huh?!!! I cant remember, but from the ones you've seen that other's have had, does the plug appear to be the same as yours. I guess I could check mine. Just thinking in terms of getting the correct harness for that.

Kennymp3

Yeah thats the right harness connector as my map looks the same.
Now where to get the other half of it is the hard part. Try contacting Greddy?????

Cool confirmation Kenny!

Just did a google quick search for just the harness and only looked at one place and they wanted $35 for the map harness. But Swoosher search eBay Emanage Map Sensor and you'll have at least two decent options for getting a whole updated map sensor with harness. Then you'd have a spare. lol. So yeah, one is $47 shipped and is authentic Greddy, but then there's another that seems to be a recent development and is a one-off piece that is a few bucks cheaper. You seem like the authentic type Russ. :p

Thanks Don & Ken!

Was checking the Greddy MAPs on ebay, but all seem to have a different connector that mine does. AND, I didn't see an authentic one . . . there was this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Emanage-E-manage-Blue-Turbo-Boost-Pressure-Map-Sensor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3efb3eecf9QQitem Z270503177465QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fA ccessories#ht_1942wt_916 , but wasn't sure it was authentic.

Ah, see the connector is different. Na-na-ni-boo-boo kenny.:p Joke!

The one in that link is authentic Greedy map--at least that is the newer one that differs from yours.

You could also DIY wire in that piece if you like, but your a bit too clean for that kinda stuff. Squeaky clean! Not knocking either, complimenting. I'm a hacker. "Whatever works" type. lol

Yeah, I do like a clean install whenever possible.

And, prior to me posting, I contacted the seller from the link regarding the MAP's authenticity, his response was that it is an "aftermarket map sensor designed for Greddy E-manage". Still not absolutely sure if it is Greddy brand or not. So I'll probably just be getting the harness, Greddy part number is 16401406.

Dzaster
01-13-2010, 07:53 AM
Oh yeah, just get the harness. That seems to be the right part number based on the web sites I've just checked.

I think that is correct what the seller told you. Its a part designed for Greddy. Yours just has the Greddy badge on it.

Main thing is................IT WORKS!

Well, today I set the jumpers and rotary switches on the EMB. I also got my EMB harness wired in to Kenny's Kickass extension harness. (Hopefully it is right, I double and triple checked it).

Almost exactly how I did mine. The only difference, and this is where I so wanted to cut corner was, I actually pulled the pins out the plug so I could use heat shrink tubing on them. Did them one at a time though. As long as you used some good electrical tape you should be good. I just know that sometimes electrical tape likes to "let go" over time and with heat cycling--like hot SoCal summers:D.

airswoosh1

Yeah, I didn't want to just use electrical tape, but also didn't want to screw up the harness. How difficult is it to pop the pins out? I have a trash wiring harness laying around so maybe I should try it out on that.

Dzaster

its easy once you figure the first one out. Get a really small skinny flathead screwdriver. Then look at the front of the plug, the side that kenny did not use the heat shrink tubing on. Above each pin there is a small hole. You have to stick teh screwdriver in and an angle to where the screwdriver is angled down slightly to the wire pin. There is a little tab that you just have to pry up and while you do that you have your other hand on the wire you are trying to pull. Pull wire same time as you pry up that tab. when done just pop it back in with the right side up(hopefully you took note, if not it just won't stay put) and in most cases you hear or feel a little click. Done!

Exactly what Don said is how to remove pin's.
I would recommend using heat shrink tubing......Reduces the risk of shorting anything out.
If you do have a scrap connector to mess with I would for sure
"practice" on that first.
It takes a little getting used to but it's really important to do it right.
You shouldnt have to force the screwdriver at all.Just take your time Russell you'll get it:D

*edit*
One more thing..... you have to prep the connector before you can remove the pin's.
On the back side of the connector there is a rectangular recess that you have to pry up,
Basically it locks in the pins, and you have to pry it up before attempting to remove the pins.

I thought there was some other bit that held it in, but I know there are a couple different styles so just slipped my mind. Getting old? lol

Alright, thanks guys. I'll definitely take a shot at it. I HATE the way electrical tape looks, I'd much prefer the clean look of heat shrink tubing. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ahh, It slipped past me too Don:o hence the *ninja edit*
Of all the harnesses I have dealt with I have only seen two styles of connector's.
One being the newer type you and russell have and the older paseo/tercel style that use a flip-up type locking back piece.

Yeah the heat shrink tubing is the way to go. Anyhow keep us posted.

Well, I finally got around to working on the heat shrinking. I beat up the extra connector I had to practice on, but eventually got the hang of taking the pins out. Unfortunately, in the end, I still have some electrical tape around a couple of the junctions to support the heat shrink tubing where I couldn't quite get it completely around because the collection of wires is too wide. But I zip tied the wiring around where I did all the splices, so even if some of that electrical tape wanted to let go, it'd be kind of difficult for it to.

I'm not COMPLETELY satisfied, but I don't foresee the wiring having any problems (unless I did it wrong of course).

Hack job! haha! Joke! I'm sure it'll be fine. I never soldered or heat shrink anything. Once I got one of those harnesses off kenny I went off redoing the whole car over a few days time.

Thanks for the (lack of) support Don! :p

But to continue towards my installation . . . . now, if I plug the EMB in, I assume it is still tuned for the car it was previously in. How do I wipe all that info out? With the support tool? I still need to pick up a serial to USB adapter.

And once it is set back to the factory defaults, it won't effect anything right? I just want to get it hooked up so once I do get around to tooling with the ACIS manifold, it'll be all ready to go.

I've not had to do that before, but instead of having to manually zeroing out all the maps and settings, you might try setting up as much as you could in the software's Parameter Settings--displacement, injector change, etc. Then you save that file to desktop or wherever you choose, then wen you first connect laptop to EMB unit just turn te car key to the run position not start, and you should be able to sync. It'll load what's on your EMB unit, then you simply go to File and then Open--find the zeroed out map you saved to load on the EMB unit. That will just open it in the software, but you'll then need to export that to the EMB unit. Export option is found under Communication. I'm pretty sure it'll detect and load your MAP sensor type under Parameter Settings.

That should get you a fresh unmodified map.
