I just failed CA smog-only test.
The car had e-manage blue on it when I bought it used and had a valid smog cert. However, I could not pass this time. My car is a ODB1 1994 Miata with an intake (carb-legal) exhaust and a Jackson Racing Cat. The cars NOx output was too high. I had no "non-CARB equipment" issues.
Is there a way for me to disable e-manage for the test?
Any help will be appreciated

I do not miss CA one bit as the smog laws are ridiculous...
You should try miataturbo forums, FYI!

Do a google search for "high nox emissions failed" and you will find some results as to what could be causing it. Sometimes it's something simple like having the oil changed to get you a better reading or just changing spark plugs.

made the mistake NOx is fine - as it should be (since its a high-temp symptom). My HC are really high at 15mph and barely passable at 25mph. Looks like I need less fuel.
Anyone know how I can go back to base map?
Thanks,
Mike.

I do remember smog techs never ever open the glove compartment and if the guy who sold you the car did a decent job all the wires of the E-Manage should be hidden out of view, very well concealed.
If he hooked you up well, you should have the E-Manage tools software, serial cable to connect a laptop (of course with serial port capability). Just connect the laptop and trim fuel, I think you can even find all the instructions on the piggy back website.
Once again, Miataturbo forums will be much better than this one, not to say this is not good, but you got a Miata and MiataTurbo has a specific section for E-Manage Blue, tons of knowledge there in regards to Miatas.
A few things I have heard that work on smog, have about a 1/4 or less of fuel, dump a bottle of octane booster and that should do the job. If you want to go more extreme do all the above plus use Sea-Foam to clean the combustion chambers and change the cat converter or add a secondary one and replace after passing smog with a test pipe (of course still keep the original one).
On a side note, I hate California emissions, my car of 1990 had to be on the rollers just because of the county I used to live at. My neighbor around the block was tail only emissions as he fell on another jurisdiction, totally messed up.

You have the Greddy Support tool to make changes? If so, save what's loaded on your EMB unit and then zero out everything in the maps.

Thanks everyone - found instructions on how to put a jumper on the harness to disconnect EMB.
I tried to connect the my laptop to the EMB using a Giff-Tech usb cable, but I don't have Giff's instruction on how to use the cable with the e-manage support tool. Got the e-manage software installed as well as Giff's USB drivers, but not sure of how to connect to the EMB.
Still, at least I know how to stop EMB overriding the ECU.
The 0-change map suggestion makes sense, however, I am as of this momment unable to tune the EMB.
So anyone know how to use Giff's cable to connect to EMB? Too bad Giff's doc is not online, I can't locate my hard copy and the word doc on the CD is 86 blank pages.
