I've heard and seen some online sites talk about a diy support tools cable. are there any type of defects u would get from using one of these? Ive seen some stuff about not being able to update with the cable or something. Please shine some light emanage gods :)

The Emanage Support tool (Software) is only of any use with the cable. The cable and the support tool together are what unleash the full potential of the emanage. The 5 dials on the front can get you in the rough ball park the support tool itself has a 16 x 16 map in it for air flow, boost cut, anti engine stall, fuel injection table and can scale your map for whatever size injectors you install. Just remember you can only go 50% over stock otherwise you will have to manually do a calculation help the emanage correct for such a large gap.

There is a method for making your own emanage cable becuase the factory connection cable is like 80 beans and the ports don't exactly match up to use a normal usb cable to connect your computer.

I will look up what parts are needed but i know it uses a Nokia DKU-5 cable.

I've also come across some readings that suggested that the non-Greddy would miss a beat somewhere, however, I think I read where people were having trouble with the 3rd party software usage--Emanage Tools.

I have had it for a couple years now with no major difficulties. The greddy software that is.

werd. they are mega expensive i was the fool to let a "friend" borrow my cable and disk but when it was time to ask he had already moved to miami so i got screwed. i would make one but if its not 100% perfect and i cant get the full potential i think im just going to have to acquire one by some other means.

Well from what i've heard the diy clone cable works fine with the greddy software. I actually have the program with 1.49 update on my HD I will upload to the archives for everyone to save some cash on, that junk is expensive. Thanks to Lycan for setting me up with that one years ago.

Nice. So Accord, you have been using a non-Greddy assembled support cable with no probs then? If so, that is very good to know. Save some coin.

I have both. I prefer the greddy cable but the diy clone cable works just fine.

You want the file called "Greddy Support Tool Software".

Greddy Support Tool Software (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=3a8623a30294052e2fb2ca15d7ea42d9e04e75f6 e8ebb871)

I'm 99% its 1.49 as I installed it to the comp and checked first thing and that was the version #.

Wasn't sure if I should start a whole new thread for this, but it's somewhat relative.

I just realized that I have no port/connector on either of my laptops that are like the Support Tool serial cable--the end with the 9 pin connetion type.

I have one serial port on my laptop for an external/2nd monitor that is 15 pin that looks similar.

How do most you guys get hooked up with the authentic cable?

The connector port is called a DB9 serial port. You cand got to radioshack and ask for a DB9 to USB adapter or a DB9 PDA computer adapter. Thats where I got mine. Its pretty slow though, maybe its my laptop but it gets the job done...hehe!

ok figured it out. Cant use the cable but got a better understanding.

Thanks. I actually spent the night researching that thing and that is what I found also. So it works, but slow? I think because it is probably USB 1.1--OLD.

I ordered one of those, one DKU5 cable to DIY one, and am now going to head to RadioShack. I may even go ahead and buy an old laptop off ebay and make it dedicated.

Update:
The Serial-to-USB cables with driver CD works--at least mine from RadioShack does.

did you all try that fake usb cable Nokia DKU-5 cable conversion....?

It's funny you should ask as I've just received my DKU-5 cable yesterday and so I proceeded to try and Do It Myself.

The wiring was color coded and a few of the wires were of the same color but that meant very little to me so I proceeded to check continuity with my Digital Multi Meter. The USB I had the wires all figured out. However, the DKU-5 cable was kinda wack in that I could only find continuity in one of the wires. I figure it wasn't worth shorting out the EMB or my comp so this is where it currently resides.

:D

Paid a whopping $3 for it.

Just to say www.giff-tech.co.uk is still going, I just went on my first vacation in 5yrs...
Basically the emanage cable is a type of Serial-TTL converter, I designed mine from scratch to be safe with the Emanage and 100% reliable, it should actually last longer than the official Greddy cable due to one of the components they use.
Making a USB cable from the DKU5 types is no longer viable since they starting using a cheaper chipset that doesnt support the type of CMOS that the emanage runs.
I'm also prepared to offer a 20% discount to members of this forum if thats ok with the moderators.

I am definitely in approval of this Giff, i thought I had recognized you from the other emanageforums I was accord2nrz on there as well. Congrats on your vacation those dont come often enough do they. I will confer with 2nrmom and then within the next 24 - 36 hours we will create a board specifically for people to order the cable from you. How does that sound?
