i just noticed today, when i accelorate, i hear a wind up sound. i push it a little harder and it gets louder until it reaches almost redline then changes gear (auto) and I asked Torch what he think's it could be, he said could be nothing or it could be something seriuos... which sounds like something i would say to make it sound like i knew what i was talkin about lol, but anyone have any ideas as to why my car would be doing that (2001 Volkswagon Jetta)
any help or opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I dont think an automatic should be hitting redline before it shifts. how much throttle are you giving it when this happens?
Did it just start doing this?
Can you recreate the phenomea easily?
Were there any changes done to the car around the same time this started happeneing?

it never hits redline. just right at it though. you know how here on the blvd that you just got to jet sometimes during lunch hour just to get onto the blvd... then i give enough gas so the on coming car wont hit me....
yes it just started doing this i think... i JUST noticed it yesterday. and what you mean phemonea? and the only changes to the car is animal crackers in the seat. that is pretty much it. Torch did tell me how walked me thru on how to change some filter about 2 months ago, but i do not think that would be relevant to this situation.

no, a winding noise usually means something mechanical needs to be lubed or is in the process of breaking. Sounds like tranny related issue to me.
Be recreating the phenomena i mean can you make it happen again and again or is it sporatic.

sporatic.... i think i am goin to trade it in soon anyways. there is a jetta at wolfe motor company i am in LOVE with.
how can i figure out myself what to look for if it is mechanical?

the events surrounding when this happens is the best startm if you can make it happen that will help you pick out what is going wrong.

winding noise?? Through wat gears do you hear the winding noise and do you hear it when you rev the engine n park or nuetral? Sometimes winding noises come from pullys too because they are moving the same speed with the crank pully and can trow you off. If yo can do it in nuetral and you do hear it i wouldnt think tranny. When a band in a transmission does break you do hear a winding noise that gets louder as the rpm increases but i wouldnt conclude to that yet ha ha then that would be serious lol.

I'm guessing the problem has resolved itself or she just gave up on it so i'm closing the thread.
