How much do you think it will cost for a shop to fix it. I was putting a new crank pulley on. Might go the 1JZ route if the costs gets too stupid.

So is the crank pulley bolt stuck on the crack or you can torque it down?

If you can, get a socket you dont want anymore that will fit over the bolt with some hammering, take a 1/4 in breaker bar and attach that with the other end braced against the frame. Disconnect the ign coil and crank it once. the torque should pop it loose.

I agree with the socket and hammering, but using the starter like that is also a good way to break a flywheel tooth or bend the reduction gear in the starter.

i always feed hemp rope into #1 on the compression stroke, so when the piston comes up it has something to hold it. you can then loosen or tighten that crank bolt.

The bolt head is rounded all to hell.

When I took the bolt off the starter trick did not work. I picked up the SST for holding the OEM crank still, removed it and was putting the ATI dampner back when the socket slipped off and rounded it off. I don't have real tools here at the apartment, but I do back home. I will worry about this more when I pull the motor. Called some shops and they all said over 700 because of pulling the motor so I am going to pull it and worry about it then. Not my daily car so not in a rush.

Wow, that really blows. Sorry to hear that. I actually started to use the starter method to pop mine loose on the honda and then i noticed how rusted it was so i was like screw it.

yo seventh mac your gone have to get an extractor socket. dont matter how rounded the nut is lol it can be completely round and the socket will still pull it off. You just hammer the socket on and it has sharp teeth that sink in the nut and will hold when you twist it off. Iv ran into a lot of rouned nuts lol but those extrators are a life saver. You canpick em up in a set or individually.

I was thinking maybe you could grind the head of the bolt off, slip off the crank pulley, and hope there is some leftover bolt hanging out that you can use to grip with a vice and back out the bolt.

Might need to get an extractor but I was using the SST to hold the motor still and now it doesn't fit with the ATI hub.

DZ--I would like to try that and would but it is a bolt with a thick washer already on it, dunno how it would work.

Eventually I will get it fixed, but looking at a 1JZ-GTE for a replacement and boost. That will enable me to finally plug in my emanage and start TUNING haha I am ready to do this.

Snap-on, craftsmen, stanley, heard craftsmen ones suck though from what I have read aloud.

E-Z out's are great for instances like this.
Have a look here.......

I have also used a craftsman set that is just for rounded over bolt's like this....

One thing that always helps is a good penetrating lubricant i.e.
PB blaster, even WD-40 work's (just give it time to work)
I also swear by heat (blow torch) Not alot of heat is needed but it seem's
to do the trick.
Good luck and let us know the result's.

yeah the extractor sockects are really nice look exactly like regular sockets but they are thin walled and have a swirl like teeth inside and are made per size in either standard or metric you hammer em on and when you twist it the teeth are like facing the way you twist off so the teeth bite more into the rounded nut or stud. I got a set off the mac tool truck a lil pricy from them but im pretty sure craftsman makes some too or another tool company ya know.

But I did a lil upgrade to the 1JZ-GTE and going to build the bottom end when I return from this deployment. Working its issues as I type.
