noob question

So I bought a car that has e-manage blue. I don't have a cable but will get one from Griff soon. The car (a 1994) Miata runs very well with e-manage which I was told, is tuned for the exhaust and intake that is on the car. The car is tuned for CA 87 octane, so I was wondering is there is any power to be had by using 91. If so what would need to be tuned? Timing?

Higher octane increases the detonation threshold so you can run more advanced timing with higher octane gas.

in addition to dzasters statement higher octane also has a higher potential for energy creation during the spark event.

Not necessarily, good way to check is look at the back of your EMB if you have a second harness plugged in there in addition to the main harness its likely.

Second way to check is go into the unit parameters and look to see if the additional injection map is selectable, if it is then you have it, if not then you dont.

Thank you - will take a look down there. I have ordered a cable from Giff as well - would like to see what is going on in that unit.
