Section for those who tune with or have questions about Cobb's Street Tuner (AKA AccessTuner) software specific to the Subaru STI and WRX. More to follow.

Is there a universal access tuner or is there one specific to the impreza and wrx?

The software is specific to vehicle type and to model year as well. The software for an 06 STI will not work on an 05 etc. The WRX has a 16bit ECU and matching program up to the change to the 2.5L which has it's own different software.
The Accessport is the same way.

Does either software have an advantage over the other?

The Accessport is not software. It's a handheld reflash device. The StreetTuner software is used in conjunction with the Accessport. The AP is used to flash a base map to the ECU and the software is used to manipulate the realtime map via the OBD port and a cable with a laptop.

Similar. ST has a few more tunable parameters AFIK but I don't have much experience with ECUflash.

Sounds to me like a couple of articles on the difference between these would make for a good sticky. I understand the concept of ecu reflashing and equipment needed. But for a subie owner wanting to tune it would prolly be beneficial.

I'll work on that and sticky it when I'm done for feed back.

I've downloaded ECUflash and am taking a look at it to get a feel for the way it works and how it's different from ST. More to follow.

I need to see if there are some people on here and elsewhere that have any experience with ECUFlash. It looks to be pretty much the same as the original version of StreetTuner with some small detail differences. I don't want to switch over to using ECUFlash due to the work involved to manipulate the ECU for the change so I can't get a real world idea of it's functions. I'm not sure if ECUFlash allows for real time tuning like the StreetTuner does but if not that would put the StreetTuner far ahead in my opinion. MTF

Here's a link to the Cobb site that describes the AP.
http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=3256
The one shown is the AP version 2. I have the version 1 which is more limited and is a grey rectangular shaped box about the size of a PSP. The version 2 has more features such as flat foot shifting, launch control and data logging in addition to being a reflash tool and USB compatable. Keep in mind that the AP is strictly a tool to import and export maps to and from the ECU. It does not provide the ability to physically change the map data. Cobbs tuning software is required in addition to the AP to do that. The software is another ~$250-$270 in addition to the AP.
