Here is how.

Pick up a basic USB to Serial converter. Plug it in. If you have Vista, it has drivers. Otherwise the converter should have a drivers CD. Install them.

Go into your device manager under ports and make sure your USB Serial Port is set to either COM1-4. If not you can open it's properties, advanced and change it to so.

Open projectgsc and set the data port to COMx. Mine is COM3.

Sorry a little confused - is this a solution for those who do not have the e-manage wire? That is allowing them to use a
e-managa -> usb-to-serial_male->serial_female-to-usb->laptop
connection?

Nah, you still need the Support Tool cable(or one of the other custom cables) then you can use any ol' serial-to-USB cable.

Interesting. I wonder if this is sill the case if you make the "Gold" soldering mod. Anybody know? Because AFAIK the e-manage ultimate work over regular USB.

From what I see with the Gold and Blue, when you are updated to the latest version of the Blue you have most all the functionality of the Gold--perhaps all.

Your usb-to-serial come with a driver? All that is well?

Have you tried different USB ports on the computer?

What brand of Serial to USB adapter is that? And who is the manufacturer?

Mine is an HP, and Vista installs the drivers on its own.

Those conversion cables come with software. I think they generally have drivers for the cables. At least the 2 I used did.

the comp i was using had vista, and it didnt work. It said the file was corrupt or missing. it worked fine on xp. Maybe having internet on the vista comp would fix it.

For the vista 32 bit user. Have you tried running the program in compatability mode for win xp?

thing is for xp, it had like an actual program, for vista it was just had the drivers. Im not to familiar with vista.

With vista you should plug in the serial to USB a window should pop up that suggests to search for driver and you'll need to manually use that window to locate the drivers on the disk. They obviously didn't put together an installer package like they did for the XP drivers.

Thats exactly how i installed it, but kept getting a failed to install message.

Where's the cable from? What I did was order one from eBay and until it came I bought one from radioshack that worked. Then when the ebay one came I tested it and it worked so I returned the RadioShack one.
